UW extended their lead to 10-0 and it wasn’t until 4:50 left in the first quarter that SF scored - off two free throws. The three times they tried, they airballed a 3, and shot two layins that were nowhere near going in. To be fair, UW’s defense was locked in and SF had a hard time getting the ball anywhere near the basket. The interesting part of this is that Tina Langley didn’t need to call a timeout - the women made the adjustment themselves. This caused UW to need to readjust and neither team scored for one and a half minutes of the first quarter.Įlle Ladine was first to score for either team and from there UW figured out that if they cut to the basket, they could make layins without getting stopped by SF and went on a 6-0 run. As the game started, San Francisco’s game plan was clearly to stop UW from shooting threes and were in their face relentlessly if they ever passed the ball there. UW started this game with Jayda Nobles, Hannah Stines, Lauren Schwartz, Dalayah Daniels, and Elle Ladine.
Dalayah Daniels and Hannah Stines were named to the five-person All-Tournament Team and Lauren Schwartz was named Tournament MVP. The UW Women’s Basketball team were back at home on Saturday, playing against University of San Fransisco fresh off of winning the Rainbow Wahine Showdown Champions Tournament last weekend where they beat host Hawaii 58-41.
